Most families in Rengdil depend on areca nut cultivation as their primary livelihood, giving the landscape its lush, plantation-like charm.

Known for its serene Rengdil Lake, cultural traditions, and heartfelt local hospitality, Rengdil offers an ideal off-beat retreat for travelers seeking nature, community life, and a peaceful rural atmosphere.

Just a few hours’ drive from the Tripura border, Rengdil welcomes visitors with scenic viewpoints, calm lakeside corners, and friendly homestays—making it one of Mizoram’s most underrated destinations.

Where Is Rengdil?

Rengdil is a village in Zawlnuam Block, Mamit District, in western Mizoram. It lies close to the Tripura border, making it one of the most easily accessible Mizoram destinations for travelers coming from Tripura or southern Assam.

How to Reach Rengdil

From Tripura (via Kanhmun Border)

• Route: Agartala → Khowai → Kanhmun Border → Zawlnuam → Rengdil
• Distance: Around 110–130 km, depending on your starting point
• Travel Time: Approximately 6–7 hours by road

Good News: Transportation can be arranged from Kanhmun Border directly to Rengdil and take you comfortably to the village (around 1.5–2 hours drive).

Note: Don’t forget your Inner Line Permit (ILP) for entering Mizoram. It’s easy to apply online or get it from the Mizoram House in Agartala.

From Assam (via Silchar or Jampui Hills)

• Route: Silchar → Jampui Hills → Zawlnuam → Rengdil
• Distance: Around 170 km
• Travel Time: Around 6–7  hours by road

Tip: The route through Jampui Hills offers stunning viewpoints and is a beautiful road trip option for nature lovers.

 From Aizawl (for reference)

     ● Travel Time: Around 4–5 hours by car through scenic mountain roads.

 What to See & Do in Rengdil

 1. Rengdil Lake

Rengdil Village takes its name from this serene and historic lake — “Rengdil” meaning the lake of Reng, a calm waterbody that has shaped the village’s identity since its establishment in 1922.

The lake is located between Zamuang Village and Hriphaw, and from Rengdil Village it is roughly 5 km away — close enough to be part of daily life, yet tucked quietly in its own peaceful corner of the hills.

A symbol of origin, community, and natural beauty, Rengdil Lake remains the heart of the region and the reason the village carries its name.

 2. Rengpuk

A local natural site with cultural stories tied to the village’s history. A good spot for photography and nature lovers.

3. Khawhlui Tlang Park

Located on a hill near the village, this small park offers beautiful views of the surrounding valleys. Ideal for sunrise or sunset moments with friends and family. From the park we can see Jampui hills, Tripura.

4. Rengdil Monument

A sacred site where the village chiefs are buried, symbolizing Rengdil’s heritage and respect for its leaders. A must-visit to understand the local history and traditions.

5. Village Walks & Local Life

As you walk through the quiet lanes, you’ll see areca nut plantations the main livelihood of the people here. Visitors can also interact with locals, visit the village church, and experience the peaceful rhythm of rural Mizoram.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Rengdil is between November to April, when the weather is cool and pleasant. During the rainy months (May–September), the hills turn lush green, but road travel can be more challenging.

• Mobile signals may be weak in certain areas.
• Respect local customs and ask before taking photos.
• Always check for ILP requirements before entering Mizoram.
• If you’re driving, fill fuel at Mamit or Zawlnuam before heading to Rengdil.
